Acne

Acne

Acne is an extremely common skin condition affecting about 50 million people in the U.S. annually. Teenagers are the group most commonly affected but acne may exist well into adulthood. Particularly in women, acne can occur in the 40s, 50s and beyond. Although only rare forms may cause serious health effects, acne can lead to significant social and emotional distress for many patients. Fortunately, acne is very treatable and many topical and oral medication options exist.

Acne treatment in some form is covered by most insurances and dermatologists are experts in acne treatment. Many over the counter products may be helpful, however prescription medications are usually much more effective. Our patients often find that effective treatment is covered by their insurance only after spending too much money on pricey products such as Proactiv.

Scars may form in certain patients with acne. While there is no way to completely erase a scar, lasers are very effective at minimizing the appearance of scars. We offer various laser treatments at our office to improve the color and texture of scars.
